When God Shows You Another Way
There are moments in life when things don’t go according to plan. Sometimes the obstacle is small, and other times it feels much bigger. Yet I have learned that God often teaches us some of life’s greatest lessons through the simplest situations.
One evening, after a long day at work, I found myself craving Guyanese beef patties. Since authentic Guyanese patties are not easy to find where I live, I decided I would make my own. It was my first time attempting them, and after gathering my ingredients and preparing everything, I was ready to bake.
There was only one problem.
I had completely forgotten that my oven was not working.
Weeks earlier, a power outage had damaged it, and in my excitement to make the patties, I never even thought about it until it was time to turn the oven on.
I was tired. It had been a long day. For a moment, I considered putting everything away and going to bed. After all, the problem wasn’t going anywhere. The oven would still be broken in the morning.
Then another thought came to mind.
There is more than one way to accomplish a goal.
Instead of focusing on what wasn’t working, I started looking at what was. That’s when I remembered the air fryer.
One by one, I placed the patties inside and patiently cooked them in small batches. It took a little longer than I expected, but when they were done, they turned out beautifully.
As I sat there looking at those patties, I realized God was showing me something much deeper than how to cook beef patties.
How often do we stop pursuing something because one door closes? How often do we give up because the path we expected to take is blocked?
Sometimes we become so focused on the broken oven that we fail to see the air fryer sitting right beside us.
The obstacle may be real, but so is God’s ability to provide another way.
The answer may not look like what we expected. The journey may take longer. We may have to adjust our plans. Yet God is not limited by our circumstances. What appears to be a setback may simply be an invitation to trust Him differently.
That evening reminded me that faith is not only about believing God can move mountains. Sometimes faith is simply being willing to look for the alternative He has already placed within reach.
The oven was broken.
The goal remained the same.
God simply showed me another way.
Reflection
Is there an area of your life where you’ve been focusing more on what’s not working than on what God has already provided?
Perhaps today is the day to stop staring at the broken oven and start looking for the air fryer.
Scripture
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
— Romans 8:28
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that You are never limited by our circumstances. When our plans fall apart, help us trust that You already have another way prepared. Open our eyes to see the opportunities, solutions, and blessings that You place before us. Give us faith to keep moving forward even when the path looks different than we expected.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
